Email Messages Empty, Disappearing or Won't Delete
  • Determine whether the user is on Macintosh or Windows.
  • Determine which version of Netscape the user has by having him click on the Help menu at the top of the email application window, and choose About (Netscape or Communicator).
  • Have the user delete the mailbox index files by completing these steps:
    1. Click on the Edit menu and choose Preferences (Netscape 4.X) or Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings (Netscape 7.X).
    2. On the left side of the box that comes up, highlight Mail Servers (Netscape 4.X) or Server Settings (Netscape 7.X).
    3. Find Local Directory at the bottom of the box. Write down the path specified there.
    4. Close Netscape mail and browser.
    5. Open the user's hard drive and navigate to the file the Local Directory indicates. Delete all files that end in .snm (Netscape 4.X) or .msf (Netscape 7.X).
    6. Open Netscape mail again. Problem should be fixed.
