  • If the user is not dialed directly into Jeffco, he or she will not be able to send via Jeffco's outgoing mail server. The user can try using his ISP's outgoing mail server instead. Users can receive mail via Jeffco's incoming mail server regardless of which ISP is used.
  • Determine whether the user is on Macintosh or Windows, and which version he is using.
    • Determine Windows operating system version by right clicking My Computer icon and choosing Properties from the menu.
  • If there's an error message that refers to socket, DNS, or Name Server:
    1. Check the DNS (Name Server) and IP address settings by clicking here.
    2. Find instructions midway down the left-hand column, under Dialup Connection Instructions.
    3. Choose the appropriate operating system from the list.
    4. Ensure that the proxy setting (Edit menu, Preferences, choose Advanced, then Proxies, in all supported versions) is Direct Connection to the Internet.
