Dial-Up Issues
To verify or change dial-up settings on a home user's computer,
follow these steps.
- Is the user on a Mac or Windows system?
- Determine Windows operating system version by
right clicking My Computer icon and choosing
Properties from the menu.
to find dial up instructions for the appropriate operating
system midway down the left-hand column, under Dialup
Connection Instructions.
- How to find or change dial up settings on Windows operating systems:
- Windows XP: From the Start menu, hold the
cursor over Connect to ..., choose JeffcoNet
and right-click on it. Choose Properties from
the menu.
- Windows ME: Find the folder called Dial Up Settings
in either My Computer or Control Panels.
Right-click and choose Properties from the
menu.
- Windows 2000: Find the folder called Network
and Dial Up Settings in My Computer. Double-click
it. Right-click on the dialer and choose Properties
from the menu.
- Windows 95/98: Find the folder called Dial Up
Settings in My Computer. Double click it.
Right-click on the dialer and choose Properties
from the menu.
- To reset the dial-up user's ID and password in the
dialer, launch the dialer and type it into the box
before choosing Dial or Connect.
- What are the user's dialup ID and password?
- Determine whether the user has an individual or family dial up account:
- Look him up on Gateway.
- If Type of Person is family and
shows an ID beginning with f, the user has
a family account.
- If not, the account is individual.
- For a family account, type or copy/paste the family
user ID (begins with f) into the Search for
box.
- Change the Find drop-down box to read Groups.
- Click the Search button.
- Edit the password by clicking the Edit
button as is done for individual accounts.
- For family accounts, make sure the user is using the family ID and password for dial up, and the email ID(s) and password(s) for email.
- For individual accounts, the dial up ID and password are the same as those for email.
- To sign up for home dial up, click here and find the forms at the bottom left corner.
- To cancel dial up account payroll deduction, click
here
and choose Payroll Deduction Form at the bottom
left corner. Fill it out, put a check mark in "Stop,"
