Diagnosing Browser Issues

Suggested questions to ask:
  • What browser are you using? What version?
  • What is the error message, if any?
  • Are you on your home computer or at work?
  • If there is no error message, exactly what is happening? What is the user doing, and what is the computer doing in response?

What to do:
  • Clear the cache files. For instructions, click below on the browser you're using:
  • If there's an error message that refers to socket, DNS, or Name Server:
    1. Check the DNS (Name Server) and IP address settings by clicking here.
    2. Find instructions midway down the left-hand column, under Dialup Connection Instructions.
    3. Choose the appropriate operating system from the list.
    4. Ensure that the proxy setting (Click on the Edit menu, choose Preferences, then Proxies under Advanced in all supported versions) is "Direct Connection to the Internet."
